We started our journey in 1984 as a cottage industry with humble beginnings but with resourceful intent. In our early years, Mr. Lannie B. Gamage was the guiding light of the company, ably supported by his wife, Mrs. U. B. Jayawathi. Back then, the business operations commenced at relatively small premises located in Bathutha Road, Matara. This was the remarkable beginning of the long and successful journey of Matara Freelan.
Southern ladies, particularly those from Matara, have long been known for their ability to prepare delicious, healthful, and aromatic meals. Even today, traditional Matara rice and curries are well-loved by all Sri Lankans. As per time-honored methods, spices were ground by women by hand in the pursuit of conventional flavors transmitted through generations. Even today, this is the mantra we practice, as Matara Freelan, manufactures spices, succeeding in the same tradition with modern technical advancement while maintaining the highest quality standards. Our specially designed packaging safeguards the natural freshness, flavor, color, and scent of spices.
Today, as one of the Sri Lankan spice industry giants, we can boast about various kinds of mouthwatering species with a large annual production. Over the years, we have evolved, making us a significant brand for quality Sri Lankan spices locally and internationally.
